Naguib Gobrail 's dangerous law
Mr. Naguib Gobrail the distinguished Coptic lawyer and the human rights activist who bravely stood against the Egyptian government concerning Coptic’s rights, has presented the government a new law under the name of: Law to combat sectarian violence http://www.christian-dogma.com/vb/sh...1938post591938
But after reading it I found that there is a mix between Law to combat sectarian violence and Blasphemy laws.
I think his proposed law is a dangerous law that violates freedom of expression, freedom of thought, conscience and religion.
Most of the free countries don’t recognize blasphemy as a crime. Though there are still few European countries who are recognizing blasphemy as a criminal offence like Ireland, Italy Greece, due to their religious nature and history, but defiantly they don’t kill the blasphemer like in Islamic countries, the blasphemer in a very rare cases receives a suspended sentence and a fine.
There is an international combat against those kinds of laws and The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe held that blasphemy should not be a criminal offence.
Countries which have Islam as the state religion, regard blasphemy as a serious offence and the blasphemer can face death penalty in many Islamic countries or minimum 5 years in prison.
There is a difference between Law to combat sectarian violence and Blasphemy laws.
Parallel to that, Pope of the Vatican Benedict XVI demanded the cancelation of the laws that criminalize insulting (blasphemy) of Islam http://www.christian-dogma.com/vb/sh...097#post593097
