Afghan Journalism Student Sentenced to Death for Internet Print Out
An Afghan court has sentenced 23-year-old Sayad Parwez Kambaksh to death after he printed out and distributed a paper from the internet, that a three judge panel ruled humiliated Islam. The journalism student brought the paper in question to his university where he discussed it with professors and classmates. Several students complained to government officials, leading to Kambaksh’s arrest. The student has remained in custody since October and plans to file an appeal, but because Kambaksh allegedly confessed to violating the tenets of Islam, only Afghan President Hamid Karzai can pardon him from death.
